My son was diagnosed with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) when he was 2 1/2 years old. Up until that time he was just like any other child. As you will see he met every milestone. He spoke in small sentences, made eye contact, and smiled all the time. When he turned 2 and just after receiving his MMR shot there was a DRASTIC change. He began to lose his skills. I do have a strong belief that vaccines had everything to do with my son’s diagnoses. I continue to vaccinate for one reason and one reason only, the diseases we are vaccinating against can be deadly, Ayden’s Autism is a life sentence not a death sentence. If you have ever wondered if there are Angels among us, I have the answer for you. YES! They are the ones that work with our children on a daily basis, the Teachers, Aides, Therapists etc… Early Intervention is helping to bring him back. I can’t thank them enough for all that they have done for Ayden, and maybe one day they will be as blessed as I am to have them in my son’s life!

Thats what i like bout people, they are so supportive around their autistic child, i know its been a disadvantage but in the future, ur child is most likely to become very successful cause alot of autistic people manage to get very successful and very far in life, bless him =]

Thank you so much. I also love that picture. I feel that it says so much without saying a word!

I find it rather sad that anyone should have to fight for treatment for their children. I was lucky, it was just given to me. I hear all to often that parents have to fight and scream and cry to get what their child deserves. I had a few run ins with the school district, but for the most part it all came pretty easy. I do agree though, I would never just stand by and let them tell me that my son can’t get what he needs. I know him better than anyone. It just shouldn’t have to be that way.

    That song is by …
That song is by Madison Georgie. You can find it on the Autism Speaks web site. For a small donation (as little as $2.00) you can download it right from their web site. She was 15 years old when she wrote that song for her Autistic brother! I myself LOVE that song. It is just so beautiful!

    Isn’t that what we …
Isn’t that what we all need. The education system is so screwed up along with almost everything else in this country. However, just be civil and don’t be like Jenny McCarthy when you do. She doesn’t use facts and she is a complete idiot when she speaks. She doesn’t speak in facts and rationalization, she speaks using nothing but emotion and debunked information from quack doctors. You should really see my video on autism.

I’m sorry but your wrong. I needed to make a point to get my son the treatments that he needed and still needs and if that means that I have to make a scene and people off then that’s what I will do, and I know that my son did and will always appreciate whatever it is that I do to get him the help that he so desperately needs at least he can grow up knowing that his mom didn’t just sit still and keep quiet to make everyone else happy, I did and do what I do to make HIM happy!

    I don’t think that …
I don’t think that your son would apprechiate the fact that you caused a scene by screaming. It’s one thing to fight for your child, but making yourself look like a spoiled child by making a fit isn’t the best way to do it. At least you know the treatments that actually make progress in speech and communication.

LOVED THIS!!!! My son and our family went through the same thing and We fought, we fought hard thank God my son doesn’t have a very quiet mommy because I got mad. I screamed and fought and made the Doctors give me the information to Early Intervention before they thought that I needed it for him.
Needless to say my son David got Speech, OT, PT and an Autism Education Specialist at the age of 18 months and now he goes to LIU preschool and he’s on the path to great things. Thanks for this video!

What a great video, whoever made it is very talented. What a beautiful little boy. My son has been immunised up to his 6 months it was only after those injections that i started researching this whole business of vaccinations… he will not be recieving any more shots in the future. I am not totally against vacs, but they certainly need more research as does autism. God bless you! xox

    What in the world …
What in the world are you talking about? I never said anything about him not being whole or damaged, or that he didn’t turn out the way that I wanted. My son is a beautiful person w/ or w/o Autism. I never said that I lost him either. My point was, that you obviously missed, He was not born with Autism, something changed & now he is Autistic. & let others know that help is out there, and it does work. But even if it didn’t, he is stil my baby, I will always love him & I am always proud of him!

    I’m sorry, I did …
I’m sorry, I did not watch your whole video before I posted a comment. I’m glad that with therapy, you were able to see your son as a whole person. But you know, he was a whole person the whole time.

  23. drmaier says:

    Yes, he was happy …
Yes, he was happy until he didn’t turn out to be the person you wanted him to be. He was happy until you started treating him as “damaged.”

When you say you “lost” your child to autism, what are you saying about the boy you’re left to raise? And how does this perspective, YOUR perspective help him?
