i would like to know why it was put in vaccinations and now that they know it's toxic why they still do it.

Thimerosal is added to multi-dose vaccine vials to keep them free from bacterial contamination. It is not added to single dose vials. It is still used for flu vaccine multi-dose vials, because it is cheaper to produce multi-dose vials than single dose vials. It also still exists in many other vaccines, in "trace" amounts. They use it in production, then filter most of it out.

Vaccines shipped to third world countries still contain large amounts of thimerosal, because those people are not important. (sarcasm)

Thimerosal is extremely toxic.

Actually it was never found to be toxic. It is not elemental mercury like you find in fish, the body is able to clear the mercury in thimerosal. It was used as a preservative in multidose vaccine vials, but because of rumors and paranoia and bad science people believed it caused autism, so it was removed from vaccines because people were starting to refuse them. However, Autism is still around, and did not decline at all after thimerosal was removed.

Because it's not toxic, it has never been found to be toxic. It was theorized that it could potentially be toxic, but all investigation turned up nothing.

The basic purpose of it is to stop bacteria from growing in the vaccine solution. So that any accidental contamination, be it from a syringe pushed into an ampule that's picked up a cell, or just bad luck, doesn't end up with people getting large amounts of live, growing, possibly deadly bacteria being injected in.

Thimerosal is no longer in vaccines.

It was used as a preservative, and, like the other answerers have said, there is no evidence that it was toxic but it was removed because the negative publicity was decreasing the rates of vaccination and putting children at risk of dangerous diseases.
